Visit Watoto Service Trip

From May to June this year, Watoto Asia was honored to host two volunteer service-learning teams from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Students from United College and S.H. Ho College each planned and prepared their respective trips, leaving behind imprints of love and hope in Uganda.

United College: Successfully Establishes their 3rd “Toy Library”

Following the work of the previous United College service teams in the Suubi and Bbira Watoto Children’s Villages over the past two years, this year’s team traveled to Laminadera in Northern Uganda to establish a “Toy Library” in the third Watoto Children’s Village.

The 15 students transformed a dilapidated library into a whimsical “Space Toy Library.” They personally painted the walls with sparkling stars, cute spaceships, and beautiful planets, and meticulously arranged second-hand toys collected from Hong Kong, creating a dream-like world for the children. During their trip, they also visited local families in the community and taught local students the dragon dance and the Chinese calligraphy, engaging in a deep cultural exchange.

S.H. Ho College: Returning to a Familiar Place to Extend Care with Knowledge and Colour

Meanwhile, a team of 12 volunteers from S.H. Ho College also demonstrated that the true meaning of service lies in continuous care. They chose to help a community school that a college volunteer team had visited in 2023 and rebuild eight classrooms that were on the verge of collapse. Additionally, they collected a large number of books in Hong Kong and personally brought them to the school, enriching the learning resources for the children.

At the school, the students unleashed their creativity to paint colourful murals on the exterior walls of the newly built classrooms. They brought new life and beauty to the campus, allowing the children to learn in a safer and more beautiful environment than ever before.

出發前大合照

Our deepest gratitude goes out to all the teachers and students of United College and S.H. Ho College for their incredible dedication. Each of your unique efforts has delivered invaluable resources and moments of pure joy to the children at Watoto. We also want to acknowledge and thank the donors who stood behind these young leaders. Your generosity was the key that empowered them to light up so many lives with hope.
