This year, our volunteer dentists Dr. Abraham Chan and Dr. Vicky Szeto, came to Uganda to launch the Watoto Dentral Outreach Service. This mission was about more than just dental check-ups; it was a profound effort to deliver crucial oral health services, empower communities through education, and build a sustainable foundation for the future.

The First Watoto Dental Team was born in 2014 from the vision of three volunteer dentists: Dr. Abraham Chan, Dr. Trevor Yuen, and Dr. Dennis Chan. Their goal was simple yet powerful: to serve the orphans, widows, in the local communities as well as three Watoto Children’s Villages.
Over the last decade, this vision has blossomed. Seven teams of volunteer dentists, dental auxiliaries, and university students have provided vital care and education. We established our first dental clinic in Watoto Suubi Village in 2015, followed by a second in Watoto Laminadera Village in 2023, both equipped with dental chairs generously donated from Hong Kong.
This year’s mission introduced an exciting new initiative: the “Train the Trainer” program. The focus was on creating a ripple effect of knowledge. By training carers, teachers, and community members, we are ensuring that good oral health practices are taught and reinforced long after our team returns home.
Through this program and other outreach efforts during the trip, the team reached over 1,000 individuals, equipping them with the tools for a healthier future.
Our work doesn’t stop here. We are committed to deepening our collaboration with the local Ugandan medical team with ambitious plans to:
Implement community water fluoridation for widespread prevention.
Launch a comprehensive fluoride program for all children in Watoto villages.
Introduce a sugar consumption reduction campaign in schools.
Expand our outreach to serve local schools and slum areas, where the need is greatest.

This life-changing work would not be possible without our partners. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Emirates Airline Foundation for their crucial support. We also thank every donor, supporter, and volunteer who stands with us.
Your generosity empowers us to build a strong foundation for sustainable oral health in Uganda. Together, we are not just treating teeth—we are restoring dignity, preventing future suffering, and sharing a message of hope, one smile at a time.
